Job summary

SolutionWorks is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations across our multi-location auto reconditioning and service business. You will oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, fixed assets, month-end close, and internal controls, reporting to the CFO.

You will also manage external audits, support tax filings, mentor a small team, and partner with operational leaders to improve financial visibility and drive profitability in a fast-growth

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Leadership experience within accounting or finance preferred.
• Experience serving as Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role.
• Strong GAAP and financial reporting understanding.
• Experience with external audits.
• Experience with month-end close and financial statement prep.
• Experience in multi-location environments preferred.
• Automations and process improvement mindset encouraged.

SolutionWorks is seeking an experienced, hands-on Assistant Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting operations of our growing automotive reconditioning and service organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, managing external audits, and providing leadership to a small accounting team.

In this hands-on role, the ideal candidate is equally comfortable reviewing financial statements, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, improving processes, and rolling up their sleeves to solve problems. • Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and account reconciliations.
• Manage and participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare, review, and approve journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
• Supervise and develop accounting support staff.
• Partner closely with the CFO on forecasting, cash management, and financial analysis.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and lead all annual audit activities from planning through completion.
• Coordinate audit requests, prepare supporting schedules, respond to auditor inquiries, and ensure timely completion of audit deliverables.
• Support tax filings, lender reporting requirements, and other compliance activities.
• Monitor balance sheet activity and proactively identify discrepancies, risks, or process improvements.
• Assist with acquisition integration, system implementations, and special projects as needed.
• Collaborate with operational leaders across multiple locations to improve financial visibility and accountability.
• Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, controls, and profitability.
• Participate in the development and documentation of scalable accounting processes to support company growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Leadership experience within accounting or finance functions preferred.
• Experience serving as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar leadership role is required.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience with using AI in improving work production.
• Demonstrated experience managing external audits and working directly with outside audit firms.
• Demonstrated experience managing month-end close and financial statement preparation.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Advanced proficiency with NetSuite
• Experience working in multi-location organizations preferred.
• Experience in automotive, dealership, collision, service, field services, manufacturing, construction, or other operationally intensive environments preferred.
• Experience supporting private equity-backed or high-growth organizations is a plus.
• Strong systems aptitude and ability to improve processes through automation and technology.
