As Assistant Controller, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. You’ll manage the day-to-day accounting function, assist in financial reporting and drive process improvements to support our continued growth.

This role reports to the Director of Finance and plays a key part in strengthening internal controls, maintaining compliance, and supporting cross-functional initiatives.

What Success Looks Like:

Here’s how your time might break down (actual time can shift depending on business needs):

  • Accounting Operations: Ensure smooth day-to-day execution of AP, AR, and GL
  • Month-End Close & Reporting: Accuracy, timeliness and compliance with GAAP
  • Process Improvement: Drive automation, scale and policy enhancements

How you’ll be measured:

  • Oversee and participate in daily accounting activities (AP, AR, journal entries, GL)
  • Lead the month-end close process including reconciliations, accruals, and financial statements
  • Strengthen internal controls and accounting policies in line with GAAP
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Ops, Lending, Legal, and Executive teams
  • Support strategic initiatives such as ERP improvements and audit prep
  • Thrive in evolving, fast-paced environments and adapt quickly to shifting priorities
  • Have a solutions-oriented mindset and stay composed under pressure
  • Approach accounting with a customer-centric lens and understand business impact
  • Communicate clearly and tactfully across departments and levels
  • Balance confidence with humility and follow through with consistency

What You’ve Done Before:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
  • CPA required
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in accounting, including 3+ years in a similar role
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
  • Bonus: Experience in banking, lending or financial services

Tools and Expertise You’ll Bring:

  • Strong command of GAAP and internal controls
  • Proven ability to lead audits and collaborate with external auditors
  • Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and ERP systems
  • Familiarity with building and scaling accounting processes in growth environments

Step 2: Role-Specific Assessment (30 minutes)

Depending on the role, this may include a take-home assignment, Bryq Assessment, technical interview or live case study with team members.

Step 3: Hiring Manager Interview (1 hour)

A deeper discussion about the role, your relevant experience and how you’d contribute to the team.

Step 4: Final Interview or Leadership Chat (45 minutes)

A final conversation with senior leadership or cross-functional team members to ensure alignment with our mission and values.
