Job summary

KBW Financial Staffing & Recruiting seeks an Assistant Controller to join its accounting team in Quincy, MA. The role oversees a small team, hands-on GL, financial reporting, budgeting, AP, and accounting operations, reporting to the Controller.

The position requires a Bachelor's in Accounting/Finance, 7+ years of broad accounting experience, and supervisory capabilities. Great Plains/Dynamics GP experience is a plus; nonprofit exposure is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of broad accounting experience with progression.
• Prior management/supervisory experience required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Nonprofit or mission-driven experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a small accounting team and oversee AP operations.
• Manage monthly close activities including GL, AP, and payroll.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Analyze results vs. budget and prepare management reports.
• Assist with cash flow forecasting and budgeting processes.
• Support annual audits and related filings.
• Oversee 1099 reporting and intercompany entries.
• Identify opportunities to automate and streamline processes.
• Provide information and analysis to leadership as needed.

Location: Quincy, MA

Schedule: Onsite for training, transitions to hybrid (approximately 2 days/week in office)

Compensation: $125-$145k

A well-established, mission-driven organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting team.

The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller and oversee a small accounting team while remaining hands-on with general ledger, financial reporting, budgeting, AP, and accounting operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise a small accounting team and oversee Accounts Payable operations.
• Manage monthly close activities, including GL, AP, and payroll.
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
• Analyze financial results versus budget and prepare management reporting.
• Assist with cash flow management and forecasting.
• Support the annual budgeting and audit processes.
• Oversee 1099 reporting and other financial/tax-related filings.
• Prepare intercompany reporting and related entries.
• Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline accounting processes.
• Assist with accounting systems, reporting, documentation, and staff training.
• Provide financial information and analysis to organizational leadership as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
• 7+ years of broad accounting experience.
• Prior management/supervisory experience required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
• Strong Excel skills; experience with Great Plains/Dynamics GP is a plus.
• Nonprofit, association, or mission-driven organization experience is a plus.
