Qualifications
- Minimum of seven years of professional experience in real estate or property accounting
- At least five years of demonstrated success leading and managing teams
- Extensive experience in affordable housing, multifamily, or property management accounting environments
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- In-depth understanding and practical application of GAAP standards
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, and similar functions
- Hands-on experience with property management and accounting systems
- Prior experience using Yardi is a strong plus
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities
Responsibilities
- Monitor the financial performance of a diverse property portfolio
- Oversee the daily accounting activities of a team of Property Accountants, including the review and approval of monthly financial statements, bank reconciliations, wire transactions, and related deliverables, ensuring all internal and external deadlines are met
- Serve as a primary point of contact for third-party clients, addressing inquiries related to financial reporting, distributions, business license filings, personal property tax filings, and other tax-related matters
- Lead the onboarding of newly acquired properties and manage property dispositions, including sales or management transitions, with responsibility for preparing accurate sale prorations
- Collaborate closely with the operations team on annual budgeting, reforecasting, cash draw requests, and the preparation of financial statements
- Provide leadership to a team of Property Accountants through coaching, training, performance management, goal setting, and corrective action when necessary
- Partner with the VP of Property Accounting to support monthly close, year-end processes, and audit requirements
- Effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines across several property management and accounting systems
- Apply a strong working knowledge of GAAP and relevant industry standards to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting
