Job summary

Vaco by Highspring, based in Raleigh, seeks an Assistant Controller to oversee the monthly close, GAAP reporting, and audit coordination across multiple sites. You will drive process improvements, lead accounting staff, and partner with operations to enhance controls and efficiency.

The role requires a CPA or CPA-track and 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in regulated environments such as healthcare or nonprofit. Eligible for discretionary bonuses and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations including general ledger, reconciliations, A/P, A/R, payroll support and fixed assets.
• Lead monthly, quarterly and year-end close processes and ensure timely financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, schedules, and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
• Support annual financial statement audit and regulatory reporting activities.
• Assist with accounting for grants, restricted funding, and reimbursement programs.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff and optimize workflows.

Job description

We are recruiting an Assistant Controller for a growing mission-driven organization in the Raleigh area. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will play a key role in the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and fixed assets.
• Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
• Support the annual financial statement audit and assist with regulatory reporting and compliance activities.
• Assist with accounting for grants, restricted funding, reimbursement programs, and other regulated revenue sources.
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping establish efficient workflows and best practices.
• Partner with finance and operational leaders to improve reporting, strengthen internal controls, and enhance accounting processes.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis to support organizational decision-making.
• Participate in system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and special projects that improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CPA-track preferred.
• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within healthcare, nonprofit, physician practice, or another highly regulated industry.
• Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit preparation, healthcare reimbursement, and grant or fund accounting.
