Vaco has partnered with a growing construction organization in Phoenix, AZ to hire an Assistant Controller. This role works with accounting leadership and project teams on job-cost reporting, WIP analysis, financial reporting, subcontractor compliance, and process improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, project accounting, senior accounting, or accounting management.
• Experience with job costing, work-in-progress schedules, and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and accounting standards.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and collaborate effectively with accounting, project, and operational teams.
• General contractor or construction accounting experience (Preferred).
• Sage 300 Timberline experience (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements, general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and supporting financial analyses.
• Complete monthly bank and balance-sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain job-cost information and collaborate with project managers on project forecasting and work-in-progress reporting.
• Support tax, insurance, compliance, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
• Develop quarterly financial presentations and statistical reports for operational and executive leadership.
• Review subcontractor financial information, licenses, and supporting documents used in qualification assessments.
• Monitor and reconcile preliminary notices and lien waivers.
• Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, including invoice and draw review.
• Evaluate accounting processes, recommend improvements, and help implement new procedures.

Compensation and Benefits

• Base salary of $115,000-$125,000, depending on experience.


• Annual bonus opportunity.


• Employee Stock Ownership Plan contribution of 10%.
