Job summary

Polymarket, the world’s leading prediction market platform, seeks an Assistant Controller to own US GAAP reporting across entities and strengthen the SOX control environment. You will oversee complex financials for a high-volume platform with crypto settlements and regulatory obligations, reporting to the Controller.

Ideal candidates have CPA, 8–15 years in fintech or regulated financial services, and hands-on ASC 606/805/350-60 knowledge.

Qualifications

• 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience in banking/fintech/regulatory financial services.
• Experience with high transaction volume environments incl. crypto settlements and fiat integrations.
• Demonstrated GAAP expertise across ASC 606, ASC 805, ASC 350-60, applied independently.

Responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close under US GAAP, including consolidated financials and statutory filings.
• Maintain and expand SOX controls as product lines grow in the US.
• Apply complex GAAP standards across ASC 606/805/350-60 and document conclusions clearly.
• Collaborate with legal/compliance for US regulatory filings (CFTC, etc.).
• Scope and implement accounting system improvements and workflows.
• Mentor junior staff and ensure high-quality, scalable processes.

About the Role

Polymarket's finance team is small, high-output, and building the infrastructure that will support a category-defining company at scale. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is a critical hire on a team where everyone owns their domain end to end. You won't be inheriting a finished system — you'll be inheriting a fast-moving business with real complexity, real regulatory exposure, and real expectations that the accounting function keeps pace with both.

The mandate is twofold: keep the close tight and build something that lasts. That means owning US GAAP reporting across multiple entities, maintaining and expanding our SOX control environment as we enter new product lines, and being the person who spots a gap in a workflow before it becomes a problem. We operate in regulated financial services with high transaction volume, crypto settlement flows, and active CFTC obligations — and if you're a CPA with deep fintech or financial services experience and the technical chops to apply ASC 606, ASC 805, and ASC 350-60 without needing someone to walk you through it, this is the role for you.

What You'll Do

• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process end to end under US GAAP, including consolidated financials and statutory filings for subsidiaries
• Maintain and expand the SOX control environment as Polymarket launches new product lines and scales its US business, identifying control gaps before they become audit findings
• Apply technical accounting standards independently across complex areas including revenue recognition (ASC 606), business combinations (ASC 805), and intangibles and crypto assets (ASC 350-60), and document conclusions clearly for both internal and external audiences
• Partner with the Controller and legal and compliance teams on CFTC and other US regulatory filings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Scope and implement accounting system improvements, writing up process gaps, shipping fixes, and building workflows the team can actually rely on
• Collaborate with product, legal, and business teams on new product launches, M&A activity, and monetization changes, providing accounting guidance before decisions are made
• Manage and mentor junior accounting staff, setting a high bar for quality and helping the team grow without becoming a bottleneck

What We're Looking For

• Active CPA license, required
• 8–15 years of progressive accounting experience, with meaningful time spent in banking, fintech, or regulated financial services
• Hands-on experience with high transaction volume environments, including crypto on-ramps, stablecoin settlements, and fiat integrations, plus reconciliation workflows and error rate management
• Demonstrated technical GAAP expertise across ASC 606, ASC 805, and ASC 350-60, applied independently in real situations
• Direct experience with SOX compliance, including building and maintaining controls — not just operating within them
• Direct experience with CFTC and other US financial regulatory filings
• Strong written and verbal communication skills — you can explain a complex accounting position to a non-accountant clearly
• Management experience from a Big 4 firm, strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• Strong command of Microsoft Excel
• (Plus) Experience with accounting system implementations from scoping through go-live
• (Plus) SQL skills
• (Plus) Prior experience at a high-growth startup where the infrastructure was still being built when you arrived

Pay Transparency

Base salary range: $275,000 to $295,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.
