Rework Capital is seeking an Assistant Controller to partner with the Controller and lead the accounting function across multiple entities, including intercompany activity and construction draws. The role sits in a growth‑oriented private real estate company with a centralized accounting team.
You will move the function from transaction processing to oversight, setting rules, reviewing work, and delivering analyses for executives. Real estate experience and a CPA are strongly preferred.
We're seeking an outstanding Assistant Controller who is passionate about building an accounting function that leaders can rely on. You'll become the Controller's true partner and a trusted advisor to the executive team, operations and development leaders.
Our client develops, builds, owns and operates its own apartment communities, with accounting spread across dozens of legal entities. You've been in this environment before – multiple entities, intercompany activity, construction draws and lender reporting all moving at once. The function is shifting from processing transactions to overseeing them: setting the rules, reviewing the work and producing analysis that leadership acts on. You're ready to lead that shift for the sense of accomplishment, personal growth and impact that comes from making a large organization run better.
Accountants looking to stay heads-down in the ledger, or who would rather close the books and hand them off, should probably not apply. This role sits in the operations leadership meeting, owns the coding rules that site teams follow, settles disputes fairly and explains the numbers in plain language. We seek someone who has run a multi-entity close and owned cash forecasting, not just contributed to them. You have 6 to 12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years leading a monthly close and supervising a team of 5 or more. A CPA is strongly preferred, and candidates actively sitting for the exam are welcome. Real estate experience, especially multifamily, development or construction accounting, will set you apart.
Rework Capital is conducting this confidential search on behalf of an established, privately held real estate company with a long track record and a growing multifamily portfolio. The company is vertically integrated: it develops, builds and manages its own communities, so accounting touches every stage of the real estate life cycle, from construction draws to stabilized operations to ownership reporting. It's large enough to offer real scope and complexity, and lean enough that the Assistant Controller's work is seen and valued at the top. Many team members have built long careers there, and leadership is investing in the people and systems that support the next stage of growth.
Visualize this achievement track record looking back over your first year: The close runs on a published calendar across every entity, every balance sheet account is reconciled on time, and lenders and investors get their reports when promised. You've built a rolling 13-week cash forecast and a 12 to 18-month liquidity outlook. You've stepped in for the Controller from time to time and kept cash, capital calls and owner approvals moving. Site teams follow one coding map and spend a third less time on accounting. Your team now reviews variances for every community and flags repeat repairs before anyone asks, and every critical role has a trained backup. During all these accomplishments, you've also earned the trust of operations, development and ownership.
