About the Company

This dual-level role is responsible for overseeing the firm’s financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting strategic business decisions. The Controller leads financial reporting, cash flow management, audits, and tax compliance, while the Assistant Controller is expected to perform all Controller duties and step in for the Executive Director when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure adherence to accounting principles across all accounting functions.
• Oversee financial reporting: income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Manage daily cash flow and wire procedures for firm and client trust funds.
• Supervise accounts payable and review all invoices.
• Ensure timely payment of all tax obligations (partner, city, and state).
• Lead annual financial reviews and manage audits (e.g., Workers Compensation, City of Chicago).
• Handle collections for designated attorneys, clients, and matters.
• Participate in insurance applications and negotiations (e.g., workers compensation, general liability).
• Serve as backup for the Executive Director as needed.

Qualifications

• CPA with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting or controller role.
• Strong knowledge of accounting standards and financial reporting.
• Experience managing audits and tax compliance.
• Proven ability to lead and supervise accounting teams.
