Halo Investing is seeking an Assistant Controller for our downtown Chicago office (hybrid). You will oversee accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, and drive improvements in internal controls and processes.

The role requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders, with a focus on GAAP-compliant reporting. The ideal candidate has 5+ years of accounting/finance experience, a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (CPA/MBA preferred), and experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience; FinTech or Broker/Dealer experience preferred.
• Solid knowledge of GAAP, financial analysis and reporting.
• Excellent collaboration and ability to partner with stakeholders.
• Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite) and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations including AP/AR, GL, and financial reporting.
• Maintain policies ensuring compliance with laws and regulations; update as needed.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets and forecasts for senior management and external stakeholders.
• Develop relationships with banks, auditors and external stakeholders.
• Manage cash flow and investments to ensure liquidity and profitability.
• Lead and develop the Accounting team, providing guidance and coaching.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance on projects.

Job description

Halo is seeking an Assistant Controller for our downtown Chicago office (hybrid). This individual will oversee the financial operations of the company and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, excellent collaboration skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and complex environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting.
• Maintain financial policies and procedures that ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, reviewing and updating as needed.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts to provide accurate and timely information to senior management and external stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with banks, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
• Manage the company's cash flow and investments to ensure adequate liquidity and profitability.
• Ensure that all financial records are accurate, complete, and up-to-date.
• Help lead and develop others on the Accounting team, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
• Collaborate with other departments to provide financial guidance and support on various projects and initiatives.
• Develop and implement internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA or MBA strongly preferred.
• At least 5 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance. Ideal candidate will have FinTech or Broker/Dealer experience.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial analysis, and reporting.
• Must be an excellent collaborator, able to successfully partner with internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills; able to share complex financial information with non-financial stakeholders.
• Experience with financial software and systems, including ERP systems (NetSuite) and Microsoft Office.
• Must be able prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Passion for partnering internally to improve and streamline processes.
