Damora Therapeutics, Inc. (Nasdaq: DMRA) is a Boston-based biotechnology company working to fundamentally redefine care for patients with blood disorders. Damora is advancing a new generation of subcutaneous biologics targeting mutant calreticulin (mutCALR)-driven myeloproliferative neoplasms, including essential thrombocythemia and myelofibrosis — chronic hematologic cancers with significant unmet need. The company’s lead program, DMR-001, is an investigational monoclonal antibody designed to selectively target mutant calreticulin, with additional programs (DMR-002 and DMR-003) advancing behind it.
Damora is preparing for first-in-human dosing of DMR-001 in 2026 and is funded into 2H 2029. As the Company scales its finance organization to meet the reporting and internal control demands of an SEC registrant — including its first SOX Section 404(b) auditor attestation — this role is central to building that foundation.
Position Summary
We are open to candidates that are able to work hybrid (2-3 days onsite) in Boston or San Francisco. The Assistant Controller owns the day-to-day execution of Damora's accounting operations, partnering closely with and reporting to the Controller. Where the Controller sets the Company's accounting positions, owns external SEC reporting, designs the control environment, and drives the use of AI across the function, the Assistant Controller is the hands-on operator who delivers against that framework — closing the books, assembling filings and support, implementing accounting conclusions, and operating controls day to day.
This role is the natural counterpart to the Controller. You bring the operational discipline and execution rigor that allow the function to close cleanly, file on time, and keep controls intact as the Company grows. You will frequently be responsible on the ground for day-to-day decisions, and you will be trusted to act with judgment within the policies and positions the Controller establishes.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & General Ledger
- Own and execute the monthly, quarterly, and annual close in FloQast, maintaining the close calendar and driving the cycle toward a predictable, shortened timeline.
- Prepare and review journal entries with complete supporting documentation, including accruals, prepaids, R&D and clinical trial accruals, stock-based compensation, and depreciation.
- Review the payroll register and related payroll journal entries prior to posting, serving as backup reviewer to the Controller.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items, keeping the general ledger accurate and audit-ready.
- Prepare and review monthly cash and investment account reconciliations, monitoring balances against forecast and flagging unusual or unsupported activity.
- Perform flux and variance analysis on income statement and balance sheet accounts and provide commentary to the Controller and FP&A.
- Support the Controller in the preparation of all SEC filings — including quarterly 10-Qs and the annual 10-K with footnote disclosures — built and maintained in Active Disclosure, in compliance with US GAAP and SEC requirements.
- Assemble and tie out the financial statements and footnotes within Active Disclosure, prepare support files, complete disclosure checklists and questionnaires, and manage XBRL tagging for the Controller's review.
- Gather information across departments, coordinate review comments across drafts, and monitor progress against the quarterly reporting timetable and reporting-cycle milestones.
Technical Accounting Support
- Support the Controller, as head of technical accounting, in evaluating new contracts, transactions, and events and in assessing new accounting guidance; assist with researching and drafting accounting position papers.
- Implement the Controller's accounting conclusions in the books and records for areas such as stock-based compensation, leases, R&D and clinical arrangements, warrants, and business combinations and asset acquisitions.
- Monitor emerging standards from the FASB, SEC, and PCAOB and flag items to the Controller for evaluation.
SOX & Internal Controls
- Operate and document the internal controls the Controller designs, ensuring control activities over financial reporting execute as intended under SOX 404.
- Maintain narratives, risk-and-control matrices, and process flow documentation, updating them as processes and controls change.
- Perform and support walkthroughs and testing, coordinate with control owners, and surface control gaps and improvement opportunities to the Controller.
- Support the external SOX / internal control consultants and maintain ongoing training in relevant SOX areas.
Audit & External Reporting Support
- Prepare and organize PBC (prepared-by-client) schedules and support, and serve as a day-to-day contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
- Resolve audit requests and review comments promptly to reduce review cycles and keep filings on schedule.
Income Tax Support
- Serve as the primary internal point of contact for the Company's external tax provision preparer, coordinating data requests and deliverables for the quarterly and annual income tax provision.
- Record the income tax provision and related journal entries in the general ledger, and maintain supporting documentation for the provision, uncertain tax positions, and contractor 1099/W-9 reporting.
Process, Systems & AI Enablement
- Partner with IT on the NetSuite ERP environment — chart of accounts maintenance, workflow and report configuration, and process improvement — without holding system administrator access, consistent with the Company's segregation-of-duties controls over ERP administration.
- Support the Controller's initiatives to apply AI to evaluate and streamline accounting processes — piloting and adopting AI-enabled tools for close, reconciliations, and reporting, and helping build the guardrails around them.
- Help maintain and document accounting policies and procedures as the function matures, and support equity administration and related accounting.
