The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of General Services seeks an Assistant Construction Project Coordinator to support capital improvement projects across the South Eastern Region. The role involves site visits, coordinating with agencies, and ensuring projects meet plans, specs, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • Four years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and training accepted.
  • Active Pennsylvania Class C driver's license required.
  • Must reside or relocate to Berks, Chester, Lancaster or Lebanon County.

Construction portfolio consists of projects located within other Commonwealth Agency facilities such as Department of Corrections (Correctional Institutions), Department of Human Services (State Hospital and Center Facilities), Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (Universities), Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (Readiness Center and Veterans' Hospital), Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (Flood Control, State Parks), and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (Headquarter Building).

Position is home headquartered; however, daily travel to job sites in the following South Eastern Region counties is required: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, and Philadelphia County. In addition, you may occasionally be asked to travel to the following counties outside of the South Eastern Region: Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill County.

Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Berks, Chester, Lancaster, or Lebanon County.

This position reports to a Project Coordinator and assists in managing capital improvement projects for Commonwealth Agencies within DGS' South Eastern Region. As an Assistant Construction Project Coordinator, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Oversight: Conduct job conferences, coordinate, and problem-solve projects to ensure they are completed in accordance with approved plans, specs, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures
  • Client Communication: Negotiate and approve change orders up to a specific limit; ensure effective and efficient customer care to all client agencies and stakeholders; and represent the Department in claims/disputes
  • Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and direction to outside professionals and contractors
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor project progress to ensure adherence to project schedules and required standards
  • Documentation: Use construction computer software for administrative forms and processes; generate various documents and reports in the IT system

WORK SCHEDULE AND ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered; however, daily travel to construction projects throughout the South Eastern Region is required. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $61,927.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Four years of professional building construction administration, construction planning, or construction project engineering experience for renovations and new construction of commercial, institutional, or educational buildings; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession and maintenance of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must reside in or be willing to relocate prior to employment to Berks, Chester, Lancaster, or Lebanon County.
  • You must be willing and able to travel to construction sites in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties in the South Eastern Region.
  • You must be willing and able to travel to the following counties outside of the South Eastern Region if necessary for work: Lehigh, Northumberland, and Schuylkill.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • On-site renovation and new construction experience at commercial, institutional, and education buildings
  • Working knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) construction schedules
  • Previous work experience on construction projects that utilized separate multiple Prime Contractors to perform the work
  • Experience writing, generating correspondence to contractors, design professionals, and/or clients regarding project issues, conditions, or potential actions
  • Experience conducting construction meetings
  • Experience reviewing or negotiating construction change orders
  • Microsoft Office Suite and/or Construction Management Software experience
