Job description

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for performing a variety of complex engineering duties associated with the location, design, and construction of fish culture stations, roads, bridges, buildings, water or sewage treatment, dams, access areas, recreational structures and facilities, and other varied and comprehensive civil engineering projects. Our team will rely on you to provide both project management and construction oversight.

Your work will involve independently performing preliminary engineering studies, conducting location investigations, preparing plans and specifications, applying for permits, developing material take-offs, cost estimates, and related engineering duties. Work requires communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing, with public agencies, consultants, or contractors to obtain compliance with commonwealth standards and objectives. You will be expected to make determinations about the type and scope of field site investigations; recommend type, size, and location of assigned projects; perform QA and QC of engineering design submissions and field construction; and follow through project planning and implementation to meet deadlines while maintaining cost control.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. There may be rare instances when the incumbent must address emergencies outside of regular work hours.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bellefonte. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Six years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty; and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
  • Two years of professional civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license
Other Requirements
  • This particular position also requires possession of an Engineer-in-Training certificate OR a Professional Engineer license issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
