Job summary

New York City Department of Transportation seeks an experienced Assistant Commissioner for the Automated Enforcement Unit to lead operations for red light and speed cameras, weigh-in-motion systems, and related enforcement programs. The role oversees a multi-site operation, contracts with vendors, and strategic policy development within Vision Zero initiatives.

Responsibilities include budgeting, reporting, and expanding enforcement capabilities, while coordinating with the Deputy Commissioner

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree with five years of related experience, including two years in an administrative capacity.
A master's degree in transportation planning, traffic engineering, or related area with three years of related experience.
Education/experience equivalent to 1 or 2 above, with at least two years in an administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

Direct the daily operation of automated enforcement cameras and related systems.
Lead the processing of Notices of Liability for traffic infractions and set policy for the unit.
Evaluate new enforcement technologies and coordinate citywide camera infrastructure deployment.
Act as the liaison between NYC DOT and technology vendors and oversee contract performance and audits.
Stay current on state/local legislation affecting enforcement practices.
Oversee satellite offices, overtime budgets, and staff discipline/documentation.
