Job summary

The Claremont Colleges Services is seeking a part-time Men's and Women's Water Polo Assistant Coach to support all aspects of leading a competitive Division III program. You will assist with training sessions, game strategy, and recruit student-athletes.

This position requires strong communication and leadership skills and is part-time with an hourly rate of $16.90, averaging 10-15 hours per week. Applicants with prior collegiate experience in water polo are preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Assistant Coach will support the head coach and associate head coach in all aspects of leading a nationally competitive DivisionIII program. The ideal candidate is committed to the student‑athlete experience and capable of balancing competitive excellence with academic priorities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of practice sessions and training programs, focusing on technical and tactical development.
  • Support in‑game decision making, strategy, and adjustments.
  • Scout opponents and prepare game plans, including video breakdown and analysis.
  • Recruit qualified student‑athletes who are a strong fit academically and athletically.
  • Mentor student‑athletes, promoting leadership, wellness, and academic success.
  • Manage team operations such as equipment, travel logistics, and communication.
  • Contribute to camps, clinics, and community engagement initiatives.
  • Assist with program promotion and social media presence.
ADDITIONAL DEPARTMENT DUTIES AND OPPORTUNITIES
  • Serving as a home contest manager for other varsity sports.
  • Supporting Athletics Communications and Operations (statistics, media coverage, event setup).
  • Assisting with club sports administration.
  • Year‑long opportunities in facility oversight, wellness programming, and departmental committees.
REQUIRED HOURS AND ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS

This is a part‑time, temporary, non‑benefit eligible position. The hourly rate for this role is $16.90 per hour, with 10‑15 hours per week depending on the competitive season. The College will consider education, training, relevant prior experience, and performance in prior roles when offering a salary. All staff positions are ineligible for visa or permanent resident card sponsorship. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Previous collegiate playing or coaching experience in water polo strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Commitment to NCAA DivisionIII philosophy and institutional values.
  • Must be available for evening and weekend commitments, as well as travel during the season.
