Job Summary

Responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of running an intercollegiate Softball program. The Assistant Coach assists in teaching and coaching student athletes in all aspects of the sport in a manner that supports the quality and integrity of the program and the overall mission of Bentley University.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in conducting practice and game coaching in compliance with University and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Prepare effective game strategies, use proven coaching techniques, and design and coordinate practice sessions.
  • Assist on location before, during, and after competition and direct aspects of the practices.
  • Support the development of student‑athletes and apply innovative coaching techniques to motivate individuals.
  • Provide appropriate leadership, direction, and supervision related to the academic progress and personal development of student‑athletes.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified prospective student‑athletes through scouting, attending tournaments, and home visits.
  • Meet with recruits on campus, scout and research opposing teams.
  • Assist the Head Coach with administrative functions, including budget, travel, equipment, and supplies management.
  • Adhere to all conference and NCAA rules and requirements related to the conduct of the intercollegiate program.
  • Coordinate team travel and supervise and transport student athletes.
  • Assist with video and breakdown analysis and scouting of opponents.
  • Train student‑athletes who may need additional time or individual coaching to maintain and improve their abilities.
  • Communicate with individuals contacting Bentley about the program and answer inquiries via e‑mail, telephone, or mail.
  • Maintain positive public and alumni relations; represent Bentley professionally as host and visitor to other teams.
  • Assist with other administrative or coaching duties as requested by the Head Coach or in their absence.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 1+ years of coaching experience and/or participation in the sport at the varsity level.
  • Valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of innovative and proven coaching strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and commitment to developing a positive and productive playing environment for all team members.
  • Proven ability to provide mentoring and leadership to student‑athletes with a commitment to student‑athlete welfare.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to NCAA rules and requirements relevant to an intercollegiate program.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to work and/or travel with a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and limited overnight assignments.
Work Environment

The work environment includes standard office time, but the majority of time is spent outside on the playing fields at practices or games. Significant time is also spent at traveling tournaments for recruiting and training activities.

Physical Demands

Physical skill and effort are essential. Every practice involves physical effort such as demonstrating a skill or conditioning work.

Benefits & Compensation

Pay: A fixed salary of $10,609.00, paid over the months worked or on the designated seasonal schedule.
