Job summary

LIU is seeking a driven Assistant Coach for its NCAA Division I softball program. The role collaborates with the Head Coach to support all coaching and operational duties on the LIU Brooklyn campus for 2026-27 and LIU Post campus from 2027-28 onward.

The ideal candidate will foster a positive team culture, assist in recruiting, and help student-athletes balance academics and athletics while ensuring compliance with NCAA and LIU policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • NCAA Division I coaching experience or equivalent.
  • Strong recruiting and player development background.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Head Coach in planning and implementing practice sessions and game plans.
  • Mentor student-athletes in athletic and academic development.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes on-campus visits and travel.
  • Coordinate video breakdown and analysis for scouting and feedback.
  • Monitor student-athlete academic progress with advisors.
  • Ensure program compliance with NCAA, NEC, and LIU policies.
  • Assist with team travel logistics, budgeting, equipment, and admin duties.
  • Represent LIU at conferences and community events.

Job Description

Position Summary: Long Island University (LIU) is seeking a highly motivated and knowledgeable individual to join its NCAA Division I Women’s Softball program as Assistant Coach. This full-time position, based on the LIU Brooklyn campus for the 2026-27 academic year and the LIU Post Campus beginning with the 2027-28 academic year, will work closely with the LIU Softball Head Coach to support all aspects of the program. The LIU Softball Assistant Coach position responsibilities will include a broad range of coaching and operational duties that contribute to the overall success of the team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to fostering a competitive and positive team culture, supporting student-athletes in their academic and athletic growth, and upholding the values and standards of LIU Athletics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Coach in developing, planning, and implementing practice sessions and game strategies.
  • Mentor and support student-athletes in both athletic and personal development.
  • Recruit prospective student-athletes through on-campus visits, travel, and regular communication, in compliance with NCAA and NEC regulations.
  • Coordinate video breakdown and analysis for scouting, game preparation, and player feedback.
  • Monitor academic progress of student-athletes in collaboration with academic advisors.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of NCAA, NEC, and LIU policies to ensure full program compliance.
  • Assist with team travel logistics, budgeting, equipment management, and other administrative duties.
  • Represent LIU at conferences, meetings, and community events as assigned.
  • Help foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable team environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, preferably NCAA Division I.
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and player development.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required.
