Job summary

Dyersburg State Community College, part of the Tennessee Board of Regents system, seeks an Assistant Softball Coach to support the head coach in organizing practices, mentoring student-athletes, and engaging with students and the community.

The role is a twelve-month, 85% time position with responsibilities spanning game supervision, recruitment support, field and equipment upkeep, and camp fundraisers. Travel to events is required.

Qualifications

• Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
• Associate Degree required. One year of coaching experience at high school or college level required.
• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a master’s with 18 graduate hours preferred. CDL class C with P endorsement is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervision of practices and games.
• Provide instruction to student-athletes as directed by head coach.
• Encourage academic success and monitor study hall attendance.
• Transport athletic teams to and from games and tournaments.
• Supervise team activities and assist with equipment inventory and maintenance.
• Assist with field maintenance and preparation.
• Coordinate fundraising activities per state/DSCC policies.
• Participate in annual athletic awards program.
• Assist with NJCAA and TCCAA eligibility reporting and recruiting/retention efforts.
• Plan and run a yearly youth softball camp fundraiser; coordinate promotion with public relations.
• Serve as game day administrator when requested; oversee concessions; assist with shuttle of DSCC students.

Job description

General Description:

This regular, twelve-month, part-time (85%) position is responsible for assisting the Head Softball Coach with organizing and coaching the Softball team, as well as assisting the college with student and community engagement opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with the supervision of practices and games.

Provides instruction to student-athletes as directed by the head softball coach.

Actively encourages academic success and degree completion among student-athletes. Monitors study hall attendance and faculty progress reports for student-athletes.

Assist with transporting athletic teams to and from games and tournaments.

Assist with the supervision of team activities

Assists with equipment inventory and maintenance.

Assists with field maintenance and preparation.

Assists in coordinating fundraising activities following state and DSCC policies.

Participates in the annual athletic awards program.

Assist in maintaining program compliance with NJCAA and TCCAA eligibility criteria and reporting as requested by the head softball coach and athletic director.

Assist with student-athlete recruitment and retention under the direction of the head softball coach.

Plan and execute a yearly youth softball camp fundraiser in the summer. Work with the college public relations department each spring to plan appropriate and timely promotion of the camp.

Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or head coach, designed to promote engagement in college student life and athletics, including but not limited to:

• Serve as a game day administrator for athletic games and events as defined by the TCCAA bylaws upon request.
• Oversee concessions at basketball games and other athletic events.
• Assist with local shuttle of DSCC students to and from classes and activities.

Working Conditions

Restricted: Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 50 lbs), walking, pushing, and pulling on a regular basis. Occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency or severity is limited. Travel, including overnight travel, will be required to and from games, and for college or program activities.

Required Qualifications

Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Requirements of Education and Experience

Associate Degree required.

One year of coaching experience as a high school coach or in intercollegiate athletics at the college level is required.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in a high-need teaching discipline from a regionally accredited institution is preferred. Preference is given to candidates with community college and NJCAA experience.

Commercial driver’s license (CDL) class C with P (passenger) endorsement.

Salary range-$34,995-$43,720
