Job summary

Brookings School District 05-1 is seeking an Assistant Coach for both high school and middle school programs. The role involves instructing athletes, implementing offensive/defensive systems, and coordinating with the head coach, activities administrator, and principal.

The position requires SD teaching certification with coaching endorsement or equivalent, completion of the SDHSAA Coaches Education Program, and prior coaching or teaching experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• SD teaching certificate with coaching endorsement or equivalent.
• SDHSAA Coaches Education Program (Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid & Concussion in Sports).
• Employment as a teacher or teacher aide preferred.
• Previous coaching experience in assigned sport desired.
• Knowledge and playing experience in assigned sport preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach and collaborate with the Activities Administrator and Principal.
• Supervise student-athletes and team staff as assigned.
• Assist in travel arrangements, budgeting and event management.
• Prepare for practices, contests and special events; coordinate with facilities staff.
• Provide documentation for SDHSAA and school district requirements including physicals, insurance, parental consent, and eligibility.
• Maintain facilities, equipment, and inventory; enforce safety and conduct policies.
• Direct student managers and statisticians; communicate routine discipline as needed.
