Job summary

Brookings School District 05-1 is seeking an Assistant Coach for high school and middle school programs. The role involves teaching fundamentals, implementing offensive and defensive systems, and guiding student-athletes under the head coach and Activities Administrator.

Responsibilities include coordinating travel and budgets, preparing for practices and contests, ensuring compliance with SDHSAA rules, maintaining records, and overseeing equipment and facilities while fostering sportsmanship

Qualifications

• SD teaching certificate and coaching endorsement required.
• SDHSAA Coaches Education Program (Fundamentals of Coaching, First Aid & Concussion in Sports) required.
• Employment as a teacher or teacher aide preferred.
• Previous coaching experience in the assigned sport desired.
• Knowledge and playing experience in the assigned sport preferred.

Responsibilities

• Knowledge and implementation of school and department policies.
• Knowledge of and compliance with pertinent SDHSAA and ESD regulations.
• Understanding of administrative line of authority and channels of communication, and referral of student and parental concerns.
• Maintains discipline and works to increase morale and cooperation in the program.
• Assists in travel arrangements, budgeting, and event management.
• Assists in preparation for practice, contests, special events, and adheres to schedules.
• Provides documentation to Activities Administrator for fulfilling SDHSAA and school district requirements.
• Supervises the use, inspection, and maintenance of athletic facilities.
• Provides training rules consistent with Student Conduct – Student Activity policy.
• Directs student managers and statisticians.
• Determines, implements, and communicates routine discipline to participants and parents.
• Performs other duties that are consistent with the extra duty assignment.
