Job summary

RE-1 Valley Schools Sterling is seeking an Assistant Boys Soccer Coach to support the season. The role is an extra-duty, part-time position with stipends paid at season end and a salary schedule reference.

Responsibilities include coordinating all team levels, preparing teams for competition, teaching skills, and ensuring district policies and safety rules are followed. Travel to away games is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete and submit an RE-1 Valley Schools online application.
  • Willing and able to drive to away games, camps, scrimmages.
  • Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and manuals.
  • Ability to follow directions from athletic director.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, staff and community.

Stipend opportunities - $3018.00 to be paid at the end of the soccer season.

Assistant Coach Responsibilities

The Assistant Boys Soccer Coach is responsible for supporting the team throughout the season.

Leadership is to be provided by the assistant coach in the following areas:

  1. Assisting with coordination of all levels of teams.
  2. Development of expectations and direction of the soccer program.
  3. Preparation of teams for competition.
  4. Teaching fundamental and advanced skills.
  5. Following school district regulations and policies.
Essential Functions
  • Acts under the direction of the head coach.
  • Assumes functions and duties of the head coach in their absence.
  • Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for effective performance in the activity, as individuals & team members.
  • Plans and directs a regular program of practice in season.
  • Maintains competency in rules, regulations, and coaching techniques for the sport/activity.
  • Maintains discipline and sportsmanlike conduct of all participants and enforces the policies of the District uniformly when disciplining participants.
  • Coordinates freshman participants at interscholastic competition and in practice.
  • Supervises student athletes when traveling.
  • Oversees the safety conditions for students and facility, and the areas in which the sport is conducted during all times students are present.
  • Demonstrates cooperative conduct.
  • Shares in responsibility for equipment, distribution, collection and inventory.
  • Only minimum duties are listed. Other functions may be required as given or assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age, or older

  • Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity.
  • Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions & instructions from the athletic director.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
  • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  • Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the athletic director.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of high school and/or college coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of senior high school activity programming.
  • Proven leadership qualities and successful experience in working with high school students.
  • Background/experience in coaching high school soccer, or equivalent
