RE-1 Valley School District in Sterling, CO, seeks a football coach for the 2026-2027 season to develop middle school athletes, teach game strategies and techniques, and promote sportsmanship and academic achievement.

You will work with coaches and the Athletic Director, schedule practices and contests, supervise players, communicate with parents, manage equipment, and support awards and special activities. This is an extra duty role with a stipend for the season.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete RE-1 Valley Schools online application with 3 letters of reference.
  • Willing and able to drive to away games, camps, scrimmages.
  • Knowledgeable in football techniques and strategies.
  • Ability to follow directions from the athletic director.

Responsibilities

Hiring for the 2026-2027 Season

Position Type: Extra Duty

Pay Range: As per the RE-1 Valley Schools Extra Duty Salary Schedule

Stipend: $1,327 to be paid at the end of the season

Job Summary

The football coach is responsible for coaching middle school student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for interscholastic football competitions. The position motivates student‑athletes to develop an appreciation for the sport.

Essential Duties

Working collaboratively with all coaches in all duties as follows:

  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport.
  • Assesses players’ skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually and in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players, during competition and practice, to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of decorum and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports‑like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with booster clubs, service clubs, community groups, and other organizations.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Works with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participates in special activities to include fundraising, parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep rallies and assemblies.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
Other Duties
  • Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Required Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years of age, or older.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete and submit an RE-1 Valley Schools online application along with 3 letters of reference.
  • Willing and able to drive to away games, camps, scrimmages.
  • Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions and instructions from the athletic director.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
  • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  • Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the athletic director.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of school sports activity programming.
  • Proven leadership qualities and successful experience in working with Junior High School students.
  • Background or experience in coaching football.
