Job summary

The State of Maine Judicial Branch is seeking an Assistant Clerk at the York Judicial Center in Biddeford. The role handles civil, family, and criminal case matters, files documents, and supports court operations.

You will interact with the public, judges, and attorneys, schedule proceedings, process fines and costs, and maintain logs and reports. A high school diploma and customer service experience are required; typing 45 wpm is expected.

Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to learn detailed computer applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Assistant Clerk

Location: York Judicial Center, Biddeford

Salary: $22.65 - $23.82 per hour. Grade 10: $22.65 - $30.73 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Process and file civil, family, and criminal case matters before the Court.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, judges, attorneys, and other agencies.
  • Schedule pre‑trial activities, trials, motions, and other proceedings.
  • Handle and process fines, fees, and costs paid to or through the Court.
  • Serve as courtroom clerk and perform duties as assigned by the judge.
  • Prepare abstracts and reports for various agencies.
  • Operate electronic recording machines and maintain appropriate logs.
  • Participate in jury management activities.
  • Perform other varied duties as requested by the Clerk.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least two years of customer service and/or clerical or office administration experience. College coursework may substitute for work experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to learn detailed computer applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related computer software, demonstrated through training, education, or work experience.
