Overview

Assistant Clerk – State of Maine Judicial Branch, location: Sagadahoc County, West Bath.

We welcome motivated team members to serve the communities of Maine within the court system. The Judicial Branch plays a very important role in our communities by providing safe, accessible, efficient, and impartial dispute resolution. This position involves clerical work in a Clerk’s Office and courtroom, processing civil, family, and criminal cases with extensive public and attorney contact.

Responsibilities
  • Docket, process, and file matters before the Court.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, judges, attorneys, and other agencies.
  • Schedule pre-trial activities, trials, motions, and other proceedings.
  • Handle and process fines, fees, and costs paid to or through the Court.
  • Serve as courtroom clerk and perform duties as required by the judge.
  • Prepare abstracts and reports for various agencies.
  • Operate electronic recording machines and maintain appropriate logs.
  • Participate in jury management activities.
  • Perform other varied duties as requested by the Clerk.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in customer service and/or clerical work or office administration (college coursework may substitute for work experience on a year‑for‑year basis).
  • Accurate keyboard skills, ability to type at least 45 words per minute.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
  • Ability to learn detailed computer applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer software (e.g., MS Office) as demonstrated by training, education, or work experience.
Salary Range

Starting pay is $22.65–$23.82 per hour. Grade10 pay is $22.65–$30.73 per hour.
