Job summary

New York City Transit is seeking an Assistant Civil Engineer to support structural inspection programs and keep infrastructure in a state of good repair. You will provide technical guidance, conduct verification inspections, and participate in design‑build station projects.

Responsibilities include reviewing drawings, prioritizing repairs, and preparing cost estimates, while coordinating with in‑house teams and external vendors.

Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering technology and three years of full‑time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
• A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a master’s degree from accredited college in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Performing comprehensive, close‑up inspections of various NYCT structural types.
• Maintaining and updating defect databases; analyzing defects and recommending corrective actions.
• Preparing designs, repair plans, scopes of work, cost estimates, and project profiles for repairs performed by in‑house forces, vendors, or Capital Program contracts within the Infrastructure Engineering subdivision.
• Supervising on‑site testing activities as required.
• Attending planning, design, and field meetings to represent the Division.
• Conducting final inspections of completed work under senior engineer supervision and generating punch lists for Capital Projects.
• Researching existing conditions and reviewing record drawings and related documentation.
