Job summary

The City of Irving is seeking an Assistant City Engineer to support the City Engineer in planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the Capital Improvement Program Department. You will coordinate infrastructure projects with City departments and consultants, provide executive oversight, and ensure timely, on-budget delivery in compliance with laws and standards.

Minimum qualifications include a Civil Engineering degree, eight years in civil engineering/public infrastructure, and Texas PE

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
  • Eight years of progressively responsible civil engineering and public infrastructure experience.
  • Five years in a senior leadership or supervisory role.
  • Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas or ability to obtain Texas registration within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the City Engineer in planning, directing, managing, and overseeing the Capital Improvement Program Department.
  • Coordinates infrastructure and capital improvement projects with City departments, agencies, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Provides executive-level oversight of engineering and public works operations; manages large municipal capital programs; directs multidisciplinary teams; administers consultant contracts; ensures projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and engineering standards.
  • Presents updates and recommendations to executive leadership, elected officials, advisory boards, and the public.
