Job summary

Community Action Akron Summit seeks an Assistant Child Development Center Supervisor to help ensure safe, compliant Head Start centers and engaged families. The role supports staff across Education, Social Services, and Nutrition, and works to maintain high standards in health, safety, and program operations.

The successful candidate will hold a four-year degree in early childhood education/child development with two years of related experience, be proficient in MS Office, possess a valid Ohio

Qualifications

  • Completion of four (4) year college degree in early childhood education/child development plus two (2) years of experience working in an early learning center/setting.
  • Proficient computer/word processing aptitude (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and transportation; travel may be required for center supervision coverage and training.
  • Pre-employment fingerprint and background checks (FBI, BCI&I, Sex Offender Registry and Child Abuse and Neglect) and post-employment physical.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing day-to-day site-based operations.
  • Supervise and support center staff (Education/Classroom, Social Services/Family Engagement and Nutrition/Kitchen).
  • Ensure children’s health and safety and quality service delivery.
  • Ensure documentation of compliance.
  • Support facilities operations and building safety.
  • Be a hands-on leader by stepping into classrooms to help and guide.
  • Coordinate with Content Area Coordinators, Itinerants, and Mentor Coaches to coordinate supports.
  • Participate in training/workshops.

Reports to:

Child Development Center Supervisor

Job Summary:

Under general direction, Assistant Child Development Center Supervisor is the second in-charge at the assigned center and helps to make sure children are safe, classroom staff are supported, classrooms ae running properly, families are engaged, food service is provided at the highest level, and the center is meeting Head Start requirements, Day Care Licensing Rules, USDA/Food Service Guidelines, Agency Policies and Procedures, and Labor Agreement. Responsibilities including assisting with managing day-to-day site-based operations, supervising and supporting center staff (Education/Classroom, Social Services/Family Engagement and Nutrition/Kitchen); ensuring children’s health and safety, compliant and quality service delivery; ensuring documentation of compliance; supporting facilities operations (building safety and access), and being a hands-on leader by stepping into the classrooms and helping, observing, and providing guidance, when necessary; partner with Content Area Coordinators, Itinerants, and Mentor Coaches to coordinate supports; participate in training/workshops; perform other related duties as assigned/required.

Requirements:

Completion of four (4) year college degree in early childhood education/child development plus two (2) years of experience working in early learning center/setting; Proficient computer/word processing aptitude (i.e. ability to work in MS Applications such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook); Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License and transportation (travel may be required for center supervision coverage and training); pre-employment fingerprint and background checks conducted (FBI, BCI&I, Sex Offender Registry and Child Abuse and Neglect) and post-employment physical.

Site Assignment:

Worksite is either in Akron and Barberton; Assignments are based on program needs and subject to change, during employment.

Work Schedule:

Generally, between 45-46 weeks per school year. 2026/2027 School Year Schedule is July 27, 2026 - June 4, 2027 (45 Paid Workweeks & Unpaid Summer Break)

Pay Rate:

$23.64/hour (Pay Level 25)

Classification:
