Job summary

Ross County Community Action Commission, Inc. is hiring a Lead Teacher for Head Start to support daily lesson plans and ensure a safe, engaging learning environment for preschool children.

You will assist in enrollment, family communication, and transitions to kindergarten under the Head Start guidelines. The role requires early childhood education credentials or CDA, plus two years of preschool experience; background checks and health screenings are mandatory.

Qualifications

• AA or CDA in ECE preferred; or equivalent credentials.
• Minimum two years’ experience with preschool children.
• Must complete background checks and health screenings.

Responsibilities

Qualifications:

• AA in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred or a Child Development Accreditation (CDA)
• Two years’ experience working with preschool children
• High School Diploma or equivalent and two years’ experience working with preschool children and enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed within 2 years
• Complete pre-employment physical, TB test, and drug screening; complete BCI and FBI background review
• Must be physically capable of working with young children including the ability to lift 40 pounds, see, and hear children at all possible times
• Must be insurable under the agency’s policy

Job Description:

• Assist with the implementation of the daily schedule and lesson plan
• Assist with recruitment and enrollment process of children for the program
• Responsible for the safety of all children in the center.
• Must have and use knowledge of child development principals and appropriate discipline techniques.
• Capable of using discretion with other professionals in keeping children’s information confidential.
• Distribute important information to families, keeping communication open at all times.
• Encourage and involve parents in becoming effective participants in the educational process.
• Assist with two (2) parent- teacher conferences and home visits per year.
• Assist in Transition to Kindergarten efforts.
• Assist other staff in keeping the classroom/playground clean and orderly
• Assist in maintaining full ODJFS (Ohio Department of Job & Family Services) licensing requirements.
• Responsible for following the HS Performance Standards & Program guidelines
• Attend meetings/trainings as requested by Head Start Education Manager and Family & Community Partnership Manager.
• Assist the teacher with child observations, screenings, assessments, and child activities.15. Assist in conducting daily checks of children in accordance with OJFS & ODE regulations to ensure children are free from communicable diseases with the assistance of the Teacher/Administrator
• Assist with the implementation of food service as required by CACFP, Head Start performance Standards and local health regulations. Duties include, but are not limited to, serving meals, maintaining accurate attendance and meal counts, monitoring special diets, and obtaining CACFP Enrollment Forms.
• Perform all job duties to ensure program will remain in compliance with all State and Federal Performance Standards including ODJFS & ODE requirements
• Bus monitor and drive a bus as needed to ensure ODJFS compliance Personally, report any suspected child abuse or neglect to Children’s Services, after reporting inform supervisor and complete internal paperwork.
• Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies for the center and requesting the aforementioned when needed
• Read and assist in writing the education plan.
• Support emerging literacy and numeric development
• Interact positively with children to promote many developmental skills.
• Assist teacher with assessing each child using the Teaching Strategies Gold assessment 3 times per year maintaining records and updating as needed.
• Assist teacher in implementing the I.E.P. goals as determined by the I.E.P. Team.
• Work cooperatively with all Head Start Staff and maintain a positive attitude.
• Possess a thorough knowledge of center rules, and act as a role model for the teacher assistant/bus drivers, and parent volunteers.
• Keep a daily attendance log keeping in mind that at least 85% attendance shall be kept at all times. Each absence will be documented specifically as to reason for the absence. Contact parents of child who misses 3 days of school.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
