Job summary

College of Southern Idaho is seeking an Assistant Teacher to collaborate with the Lead Teacher in delivering Head Start/Early Head Start services and High/Scope curriculum. You will help with record-keeping, classroom design, supervision, and staff training across centers as needed.

Responsibilities include preparing schedules, observing child development, and partnering with families to support child growth.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field is required.
  • One year experience working with preschool children is required.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing is required.
  • Current driver’s license is required and background check is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Treat participants, fellow staff, and community members with positive regard.
  • Adhere to prescriptive schedules ensuring preparation and evaluation time.
  • Collaborate with center staff to maintain an inviting, nurturing environment reflecting the local community.
  • Assist Lead Teacher in supervising classroom staff and volunteers; provide training and ongoing evaluation.
  • Observe and document developmental progress to create individualized plans for each child.
  • Plan and coordinate a classroom schedule aligned with High/Scope curriculum and diverse cultures.
  • Recruit, train and support parent and community volunteers.
  • Share progress with parents and assist in recruitment activities as assigned.
  • Develop procedures for health checks, dental brushing, and fluoride use in classrooms.
  • Plan health and nutrition education and coordinate with the cook on classroom food experiences.
  • Participate in ongoing education including CPR and First Aid.

With the Lead Teacher, they share the tasks of overall record keeping, classroom responsibilities and design, as outlined in NAEYC guidelines and in the High/Scope Curriculum. They also share in the task of supervision and training of direct service staff and volunteers assigned to their classroom.


This position will help out in other centers as needed.

Plan, implement, evaluate, and modify child activities, daily classroom activities, involving staff, and volunteers.

  • Collaborate with center staff to recruit, train and support parent and community volunteers.

  • Share current information with parents related to child progress and potential challenges.

  • Assist the Center Supervisor and Lead Teacher with recruitment activities as assigned.

  • Assist in developing appropriate procedures for the supervision and documentation of health checks, dental brushing, and use of fluoride in the classroom.

  • Plan and carry out individualized health and nutrition education in the classroom.

  • Assist in planning and coordinating with the cook to conduct classroom food experiences.

  • Participate in an individual continuing education plan including CPR and First Aid.


ADDITIONAL


  • Be an advocate for Head Start/Early Head Start children and families within the community.
