Job summary

Canopy by Hilton New York 34th Street is seeking an Assistant Chief Engineer to join the pre-opening team for the first Canopy hotel in NYC. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will help lead day-to-day engineering, maintenance, and safety programs across guest rooms, public spaces, and F&B areas.

This hands-on leadership role requires strong technical knowledge, hotel experience, and the ability to develop the Engineering team while delivering guest service excellence.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2+ years of hotel Engineering experience in a supervisory role.
• New York City hotel experience preferred.
• Pre-opening or new hotel opening experience is a plus.
• Strong HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and general building maintenance knowledge.
• Ability to lead and coach Engineering team.
• Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.

Responsibilities

• Support pre-opening engineering and maintenance operations.
• Transition from construction to daily hotel operations.
• Familiarize with building systems and spaces.
• Identify and track maintenance issues during pre-opening.
• Coordinate with leadership, contractors, vendors.
• Establish engineering procedures and preventive maintenance.
• Test and ensure operational readiness of equipment.
• Supervise engineering team and communicate priorities.
• Provide high-level guest service and respond to maintenance concerns.
• Ensure safety, compliance with regulations.
• Monitor inventory and budget; procure parts.
