Job summary

JLL seeks an Assistant Chief Engineer to lead an 80-person engineering team at a major Seattle headquarters. This on-site role emphasizes safe operating practices, preventive maintenance, and effective contractor supervision.

You will coordinate with the Chief Engineer on daily tasks and strategic initiatives to ensure reliable building systems. Ideal candidates bring 3–5 years in repairs and maintenance (HVAC, electrical, plumbing), strong communication, and leadership experience.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of related work experience in repair, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or carpentry.
• Trade school education, union training, military service or college is desirable.
• Washington 07 license preferred.
• Leadership and/or supervisory experience.
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and direct contractors under the Chief Engineer’s direction.
• Assist in formulating and implementing the preventive maintenance program.
• Train and supervise the engineering team to expand capabilities.
• Maintain CMMS daily and handle tenant service requests.

What this job involves:

Serve as an engineering leader at JLL!

The Assistant Chief Engineer oversees the efficient, safe and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment while also leading the engineering team. You will work as part of an engineering team of 80 at a top company headquarters in downtown Seattle.

What your day-to-day will look like:

• Under the Chief Engineer’s direction, supervise and direct contractors and monitor performance
• Assist the Chief Engineer in the formulation and implementation of the preventive maintenance program
• Assist the Chief Engineer in training and supervision aimed at expanding the capabilities of the engineering team
• Maintain work order system (CMMS) daily and complete any tenant service requests
• Support preparation of monthly/quarterly operations and mechanical reports
• Respond effectively to all emergencies
• Communicate effectively to the client and building occupants/tenants
• Complete assigned tasks that include but are not limited to: painting, pressure washing, cleaning, maintaining lighting system bulbs/ballasts (as allowed by licensing requirements), plumbing, HVAC systems, water treatment, hanging pictures, repair office furniture, locksmith work and general maintenance
• Perform assigned facility inspections and due diligence efforts
• Comply with all safety procedures
• Comply with all policies for the safe storage, usage and disposal of hazardous materials
• Participate in ongoing technical, safety, and operational process training programs
• Other projects and tasks to be assigned

Required qualifications:

• Universal CFC EPA certification or interest in achieving within first year (with JLL assistance)
• Washington 07 license preferred
• Leadership and/or supervisory experience
• Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall
• Ability to frequently climb, bend, kneeling, lift and/or drive
• Strong customer service and communication skills
