Job summary

Care New England seeks an Assistant Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine to provide strategic, clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the ED at a community-based hospital.

The role partners with emergency physicians, APPs, nursing leadership, hospitalists, and hospital administration to optimize patient flow, improve outcomes, and strengthen teamwork. The incumbent will translate priorities into measurable initiatives and may act on behalf of the Chief when needed.

Qualifications

• MD or DO, board certification/eligibility in Emergency Medicine
• Unrestricted medical license in the state of practice
• Current certifications for emergency medicine practice
• Eligibility for appointment to medical staff and privileges
• 2+ years post-residency independent practice (or equivalent)
• Ability to lead across disciplines and contribute to quality/safety improvements
• Experience with performance dashboards, data analysis, and change management

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and promote patient safety.
• Lead or co-lead quality improvement initiatives aligned with hospital priorities.
• Oversee emergency department operations, throughput, and capacity planning.
• Recruitment, onboarding, and retention of emergency physicians and APPs.
• Collaborate with nursing, physicians, hospital administration, and other departments.
• Participate in leadership rounds, committees, and performance improvement projects.
