Job summary

Abbott Nutrition Division in Columbus, Ohio is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to conduct analytical testing and ensure quality for in-process and finished nutrition products. The role emphasizes HPLC, Kjeldtec, ICP-OES, and other instrumental analyses.

The successful candidate will have 3+ years in a lab, strong knowledge of regulatory standards for infant formula, and the ability to lift 20–25 lbs. On-site position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma with 1 year science and 1 year math education/experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of laboratory experience.
  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentation: HPLC, GC, ICP, titration, pH testing.
  • Familiarity with infant formula regulatory standards.
  • Ability to follow instructions, report results, and interpret gauge readings.
  • Able to lift/push 20–25 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical testing for in-process and finished products, including vitamin analysis by HPLC, protein analysis by Kjeldtec, mineral analysis by ICP-OES, fat by Mojonnier technique, total solids, iodide, chloride, choline, and fatty acid profiles by GC.
  • Conduct ingredient analyses such as titrations, moisture testing, organoleptic testing, sediment testing, and peroxide determination.
  • Perform ELISA and Romer allergen testing as required by plant sanitation and cleaning procedures.
  • Conduct control sample analysis to verify concurrent testing methodology and perform water testing for minerals and volatile organic contaminants, CIP residual testing, compressed gas testing, and weekly peroxide testing of oils.
  • Assist in compliance measures, such as Laboratory Investigation Reports, and support FLLs in non-conformance and root cause analysis investigations.
  • Adhere to all Environmental, Health, and Safety measures, including monthly behavior-based safety observations.
  • Identify, communicate, and resolve instrument issues, and understand and convey shift needs such as releases, corrections, and instrumentation issues to lab and plant teams.
  • Create training plans for new hires, delegate training, and serve as on-shift liaison for FLL elevations when the supervisor is unavailable.
  • Provide guidance on day-to-day operations for Chem I and Chem II throughout shifts.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus 1 year of college science studies and 1 year of college mathematics (algebra, geometry, or calculus) or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentation: HPLC, GC, ICP, general titration methods, and pH testing.
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory standards applicable to infant formula and nutritionals.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, prepare simple reports, read and record gauge and display readings, and apply chemistry knowledge with moderate supervision.
  • Mathematical competence: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, proportions.
  • Computer skills and statistical comprehension desirable.
  • Physical ability to lift and push 20-25 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a science field, with 1 year of college laboratory studies and 1 year of college mathematics.
  • Minimum of 3 years laboratory experience in a high-volume sample laboratory within manufacturing or production.
  • Experience with validation, vendor contracts, CAPA, or root cause analysis.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Base pay: $29.55 – $59.05 per hour.
  • Accrued vacation: 120 hours (first year prorated), additional 5 personal days and 10 paid holidays.
