Job summary

Compass Group USA is seeking an Assistant Cafe Manager to oversee daily cafe operations and help drive exceptional guest experiences. You will work closely with the Cafe Manager to ensure safety, quality, and service standards are consistently met.

The role emphasizes development and coaching of the front‑of‑house team, accurate payroll and reporting, and proactive collaboration with clients to uphold the café’s objectives and service excellence.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree is preferred, not required.
  • Experience in a high-volume, premium food service or hospitality environment is a plus.
  • Ability to manage a team and maintain safety and quality standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Certifications: ServSafe is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Rigorously manage Workplace & Food Safety to ensure guest well‑being and compliance.
  • Attend monthly safety meetings and ensure daily operations meet safety benchmarks.
  • Establish and maintain hospitality that is warm, inclusive, and engaging for guests.
  • Lead training and development of front‑of‑house staff and upskill talent.
  • Monitor and manage financial and budgetary responsibilities with fiscal discipline.
  • Meet timelines for payroll, service reports, AR, and HR documentation.
  • Operate web-based ordering systems and manage menu updates.
  • Maintain strong communication with Cafe Manager and client stakeholders.

We are seeking a dynamic Assistant Cafe Manager to join our Bon Appétit team. The Assistant Cafe Manager plays a crucial role in the overall success and operational excellence of the café, acting as a pivotal leader in delivering world-class service.

In this role, you will ensure adherence to our partner’s culture and guidelines, local Health Department regulations, and Bon Appétit’s unwavering standards for food quality, freshness, and presentation. Working closely alongside the Cafe Manager, you will oversee the daily operations of the café, with a particular focus on the development, and performance management of our valued team members. You will be instrumental in motivating and directing every associate to achieve operational objectives, ensuring exceptional customer satisfaction and fostering a strong, collaborative relationship with our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Workplace & Food Safety: Rigorously manage safety standards, including meticulous allergen management, to ensure guest well‑being and total operational compliance.

Culture of Safety: Attend monthly safety meetings, participate in rigorous safety inspections, and ensure that all daily operations meet or exceed corporate safety benchmarks.

Exceptional Hospitality: Establish and maintain a consistent expectation of hospitality that is warm, inclusive, and genuinely engages our guests.

Develop & Upskill Talent: Actively participate in the selection of team members and lead the ongoing training and professional development of the front‑of‑house staff.

Financial Stewardship: Monitor and manage financial and budgetary responsibilities, ensuring that operational standards are met while maintaining fiscal efficiency.

Administrative Compliance: Meet all timelines for payroll, service reports, accounts receivable, and human resources documentation as required.

Digital Operations: Proficiently operate web‑based ordering systems, process customer requests, manage menu updates.

Collaborative Partnerships: Maintain a high level of communication and partnership with the Cafe Manager and client stakeholders to ensure the cafe's objectives are consistently met.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Associates degree is preferred, not required.

Safety Leadership: Demonstrated ability to drive and enhance a culture focused on Food and Workplace Safety.

Supervisory Experience: A minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience in a similar high‑volume, premium food service or hospitality environment.

Relevant Experience: Prior experience in a restaurant, café, hotel, or high‑end events environment is a significant plus.

Inclusion: Proven ability to integrate diverse perspectives and experiences to build a cohesive team culture.

Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear direction and guest‑facing hospitality.

Technical Proficiency: Proficient in computer and technical skills, including a working knowledge of Google Suite tools.

Certifications: ServSafe Certification is preferred.

Union Environment: Experience managing in a Union Environment is a plus.
