Job summary

Educational Service District 112 seeks an Assistant Bus Fleet Technician/Mechanic to perform mechanical service and maintenance of school buses and related equipment. This full-time role reports to the Specialized Transportation Director and emphasizes preventative maintenance and safety inspections.

Responsibilities include oil changes, brake work, tune-ups, and repairs using diagnostic equipment. Occasional bus route driving and detailed fleet records are also required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of automotive repair and maintenance experience.
• Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and regular school bus safety inspections.
• Change oil and filters, adjust brakes, lubricate chassis, wheel bearing and other assemblies.
• Communicate effectively with staff.
• Perform general tune-ups utilizing diagnostic equipment.
• Repair and replace seats, latches, and other body components and assemblies.
• Operate battery chargers, compression gauges, hoists, jacks, pumps, compressors, air tools, presses, air wrenches and other shop tools, equipment and machines require for performing repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
• Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
• Produce and maintain accurate and detailed records of fleet maintenance and service work.
• Maintain a clean and organized shop and parts room.
• May be required to drive bus routes on occasion.
• Other Duties as assigned.

Job description

Reporting directly to the Specialized Transportation Director, the Assistant Bus Fleet Technician/Mechanic will perform mechanical service and maintenance of school buses or related equipment as assigned by the Bus Fleet Technician/Mechanic.

Salary:

The full hourly range for this position is $24.57 - $29.90. Offers are made at the entry level of the range.

Assignment:

This position will work full-time (8 hours per day) and year-round.

Regular attendance required:

The expectation is to maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. One year work experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
3. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Hold a valid Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C minimum, with passenger endorsement.
2. Experience working in a public sector setting.
3. Experience working on buses.

Working Conditions:

1. Work in shop environment with power tools and equipment and vehicle fluids.
2. Must be able to move or position up to 50 pounds.
3. Must work outdoors in various weather conditions for roadside repairs.
4. Adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands.

Employment Requirements:

1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
2. Maintain a Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class C, with passenger endorsement.
