Job summary

Aldwych Consulting is seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Building Surveyor in Southampton. You will work on a variety of projects across Defence, Blue Light, Education, Housing and Commercial sectors, gaining exposure from initial surveys through to defect investigations and contract administration.

You’ll develop technical knowledge, prepare specifications and reports, and support senior surveyors on project delivery while working in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• A degree in Building Surveying or another relevant RICS-accredited discipline.
• Some practical experience within a consultancy, construction, property or estates environment would be advantageous.
• An understanding of building surveying principles, inspections and defect diagnosis.
• An interest in developing your technical knowledge and project experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational and time-management abilities.
• A proactive, enthusiastic approach and a willingness to learn.
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• A genuine ambition to progress within the Building Surveying profession.

Responsibilities

• Get involved in building surveys, inspections and defect investigations.
• Assist with refurbishment, repair and improvement projects.
• Prepare specifications, schedules of work, reports and other technical documentation.
• Support senior surveyors with project delivery and contract administration.
• Develop your understanding of JCT and NEC contracts.
• Attend site and gain valuable hands-on experience across a variety of property types.
• Assist with planned maintenance programmes and wider property-related consultancy work.
• Build relationships with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
• Work closely with colleagues across different disciplines.
• Develop your commercial and project management skills as your experience grows.
