Job summary

PrimeWay Federal Credit Union in Houston, TX seeks an Assistant Branch Manager to support daily operations, coach staff, and ensure service quality. This full-time, non-exempt role reports to the Branch Manager and acts in their absence to maintain branch performance.

You will drive compliance, sales goals, and community relationships, lead by example, and develop staff through coaching and training in a fast-paced banking environment.

Qualifications

  • Two to five years of banking or credit union experience.
  • Prior teller, banker, loan officer, or member service experience is helpful.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Notary Public, signature guarantee, lending authority, or similar certifications may be preferred or required.

Responsibilities

  • Coach, train, and develop branch employees; support hiring, onboarding, and development.
  • Assist with the management of daily branch operations; ensure balancing, cash controls, security procedures, and audit readiness.
  • Help achieve branch loan, deposit, and membership or customer growth goals; coach staff on referrals and sales activity.
  • Resolve escalated service issues and assist with account opening and maintenance.
  • Support adherence to banking regulations and internal policies; assist with audits and risk management.
  • Serve as acting branch manager when the Branch Manager is unavailable.

Position Summary

The Assistant Branch Manager supports the Branch Manager in the day-to-day operation of the branch. This role serves as a working leader who helps manage staff, delivers excellent customer or member service, ensures operational compliance, supports sales and service goals, and assumes responsibility for branch operations in the Branch Manager's absence.

Primary Responsibilities
Area & Typical Responsibilities
  • Staff Leadership and Coaching Coach, train, and develop branch employees. Support performance discussions and evaluations, monitor productivity and service standards, help create schedules, assign daily work, and support hiring, onboarding, and development.
  • Branch Operations Assist with the management of daily branch operations. Ensure branch balancing, cash controls, security procedures, operational quality controls, audit readiness, and procedural consistency.
  • Sales and Business Development Help achieve branch loan, deposit, and membership or customer growth goals. Coach staff on referral and sales activity, build relationships with customers, members, and local businesses, and support community involvement.
  • Member and Customer Service Resolve escalated service issues, support account opening and maintenance activity, ensure high-quality service delivery, and assist customers or members with more complex financial service needs.
  • Compliance and Risk Management Support adherence to banking regulations and internal policies. Assist with audits, security controls, Bank Secrecy Act requirements, operational procedures, and branch risk management.
  • Acting Manager Coverage Serve as acting branch manager when the Branch Manager is unavailable, helping maintain continuity of service, staff direction, and operational oversight.
Qualifications

Typical Qualifications

  • Education High school diploma required in many institutions. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience Two to five years of banking or credit union experience is common. Prior teller, banker, loan officer, or member service experience is helpful. Previous leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Certifications Notary Public, signature guarantee, lending authority, or similar certifications may be preferred or required depending on the institution and branch responsibilities.

ADA Requirements

Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 5 lbs. Must be capable of climbing/descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must by capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.
