Job summary

White Salmon Valley School District seeks a high school sports coach for Columbia High School for the 2026-27 season. The position offers a seasonal stipend of $2,550 to $3,213 DOE and is open until filled.

The role includes assisting the head coach, mentoring athletes, ensuring safety, maintaining equipment, and following the WIAA/Handbooks. Stand-alone position does not include benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the head coach formulating objectives for the coming sport season.

  • Understand and apply rules as per WIAA, League, and Athletic/Activity Handbooks.
  • Uphold high ethical and moral conduct in all interactions with student athletes, officials, and staff.
  • Assist in inventory verification and systematic issuance of equipment/uniforms.
  • Implement procedures in the Athletic/Activity Handbook and ensure equipment care.
  • Oversee team phases with firmness and positivity per handbooks.
  • Enforce building regulations and emphasize safety, First Aid/CPR readiness.
  • Instruct players on rules and any changes, conduct teams professionally.
  • Coordinate transportation supervision ratios for trips outside local venues.
  • Call 911 for emergencies and maintain Emergency Medical Information forms.

IN-SEASON RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist the head coach formulating objectives for the coming sport season.

Mentor, develop and evaluate athletes throughout the season.

Have understanding and knowledge of rules and regulations as presented in the WIAA Handbook, League Handbook and Athletic/Activity Handbook.

The coach must constantly uphold the honor and dignity of the profession. In all personal contact with the student athlete, officials, Athletic/Activity directors, school administrators, the WIAA, the media and the public, the coach shall strive to set an example of the highest ethical and moral conduct.

Assist head coach in verifying inventory and arrange for a systemic issuance of school equipment/uniforms.

Implement procedures as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook.

Assist in responsibility for constant care of equipment and facilities being used.

Assist supervisory control over all phases of the team in program.

Apply discipline in a firm and positive manner as outlined in the Athletic/Activity Handbook and Student Handbook.

See that the building regulations are understood and enforced.

Emphasize safety precautions, be aware of current training and injury procedures and have a current First Aid Card/CPR card.

Instruct players concerning rules and rule changes.

Conduct self and teams in a professional manner at all times.

Transportation supervision ratio will include one district employee per twenty participants for all trips outside of approved local venues, (see WSVSD Student Self Transport Form for approved venues).

When a serious injury occurs which requires immediate medical attention, the coach in charge must take appropriate first aid measures. If a physician, emergency medical technician (EMT) or other medical professional is present, his/her assistance shall be requested. Call 911 if additional emergency medical assistance is required. All coaches are required to have WSVSD Emergency Medical Information and Authorization forms for every student athlete on their team eligibility list at all games and practices.
