Olympia School District seeks an Assistant Coach for the middle school to lead and manage the assigned interscholastic sport. You will supervise athletes and staff, ensuring safety and adherence to district rules and WIAA guidelines.
The role requires prior coaching experience, the ability to communicate with students, parents, and administration, and to meet season schedules from September through October. The district emphasizes diversity and community involvement.
The job of “Assistant Coach at the Middle School” level is done for the purpose of providing education, leadership, supervision and organization of the assigned building interscholastic team.
Cross Country season goes from September 8 - October 20, 2026. Practices run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm. Games are typically on Mondays and Thursdays with 4:30 pm or 5:30 pm start times.
Prior experience coaching at the middle level or above. Demonstrated ability and knowledge to successfully work and communicate with middle school athletes, coaches, parents, administration and community members. Knowledge of middle school sports philosophy, sport rules and regulations. Current First Aid/CPR/WIAA Concussion & Sudden Cardiac Arrest certification required prior to first practice. Additional WIAA/OSD training requirements required within first 3 weeks of season. Ability to supervise student athletes in all settings.

- Skills required to motivate student athletes, communicate with individuals and groups from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct and evaluate performance of assistant coaches and support personnel, organize and manage all aspects of assigned interscholastic sport/activity, and support district/building philosophy/goals and objectives for student activities.
