Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Boushall Middle School in Richmond, Virginia. The position is temporary and non-exempt, available as a part-time role starting immediately, with duties centered on VHSL-coached basketball activities.

The coach will plan in-season practices, mentor players, assist in selecting and evaluating assistant coaches, and work with the student activities director on uniforms, equipment, and safety.

Qualifications

• Experience coaching in VHSL-sanctioned activities.
• Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the coaching activities sanctioned by VHSL, as considered appropriate.
• Plan and schedule a regular program of practice in season.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
• Assists in the selection, assignment and evaluation of assistant coaches.
• Works with the student activities director on uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversees maintenance and safety of uniforms, equipment, facilities.
• Adheres to VHSL policies and RPS regulations.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanship at all times.
• Responsible for issuing and collecting school properties.
• Cooperatively plans for an annual recognition program for participating students.
• Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

All coaches must have demonstrated ability to develop and manage athletic activities sanctioned by VHSL. Bilingual skills to include Spanish are a plus.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

• Responsible for the coaching activities sanctioned by the Virginia High School League, as considered appropriate.
• Responsible for planning and scheduling a regular program of practice in season.
• Coaches individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in the sport.
• Assists in the selection, assignment and evaluation of assistant coaches.
• Works in collaboration and cooperation with the student activities director and other personnel in recommending the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Oversees or helps oversee maintenance, safety and cleanliness of uniforms, equipment, supplies and the facility or area to be used.
• Adheres to all VHSL policies and procedures as well as regulations imposed by the RPS division.
• Enforces discipline and sportsmanlike behavior at all times.
• Responsible for the issuing and collecting of all school properties used.
• Cooperatively plans for an annual recognition program for all qualifying participating students.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Richmond City Public Schools will conduct a background investigation, fingerprinting and tuberculosis screening. EOE.

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: Non-term contract, serves from year to year based on the performance assessment and the recommendation of the Principal.

SALARY:0-5 years of experience $1,600and 6+ years $2,200

START DATE: Based on School Board approval
