Job summary

Baptist Memorial Health Care is seeking a laboratory professional to begin blood transfusions under the direct supervision of a medical technologist and perform a limited set of routine analyses for which proficiency is demonstrated.

Responsibilities include transfusing blood under protocol, following infection control procedures, preparing blood components, performing quality control, collecting specimens, and assisting in the training of students and new employees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 6 months of related experience.
• Preferred 1 year of related experience.
• Completion of Allied Health coursework preferred.

• Transfuse blood and blood components under supervision, per protocol and with proper patient identification and documentation.
• Follow established infection control and safety procedures.
• Perform routine technical procedures, including preparation of blood components for transfusion, under supervision.
• Perform quality control procedures on reagents and equipment.
• Collect blood specimens.
• Assist in instruction of Medical Technology students and new staff.

• Follow established procedures for infection control and safety.
• Perform routine technical procedures, including preparation of blood and blood components for transfusion, under supervision of a medical technologist according to AABB standards.
• Perform quality control procedures on reagents and equipment according to established protocol.
• Collect blood specimens.
• Assist in instruction of Medical Technology students and new employees in routine procedural techniques, as assigned.
• Demonstrates commitment to professional growth and competency.
