Job summary

OneBlood in Tampa, FL is hiring a Medical Technologist/Lab Technician to perform advanced testing on donor and patient samples and interpret results under regulatory guidelines. The role requires a Biological Science degree and FL CLT license with at least 1 year of MT experience.

Schedule is full-time, 1st shift (7:00 am–3:30 pm) with rotating weekends/holidays. On-call rotation and potential weekend differential may apply. Excellent organizational and communication skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biological science and 1 year MT experience or equivalent.
• Florida CLT license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking per licensing requirements.
• Ability to organize work for timely completion and follow complex instructions.
• Effective written and oral communication; ability to work with teams.

Responsibilities

• Accepts, verifies and processes incoming blood/components or samples.
• Performs and interprets testing procedures on donor/patient specimens and blood products.
• Maintains records (written or electronic).
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Addresses potential patient care issues related to transfusion.
• Oversees Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required.
• Uses computer system to record results and data.
• Monitors testing processes to identify errors or problems.
• Participates in on-call rotation.
• Performs essential Lab Technician/ Lab Assistant functions as needed.

Job description

Performs basic through advanced testing procedures on patient and/or donor samples and interprets results in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies and procedures.

Schedule This full-time position will work 5 days a week on 1st shift, 700 am - 330 pm, to include rotating weekends and holidays.

Based upon when hours are worked, position may include a 1st shift weekend differential of $4.50 per hour.

• Accepts, verifies and processes incoming blood and blood components or samples
• Performs and interprets various testing procedures on donor and patient specimens as well as blood products, repeating tests where appropriate
• Maintains and monitors required records and files, written or electronic
• Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and calibration as required
• Identifies and resolves potential patient care issues related to transfusion
• Provides oversight and direction of Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required
• Utilizes computer system to obtain necessary data and to record test results
• Participates in the ongoing monitoring for each testing process to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors
• Participates in an on-call rotation
• Performs the essential functions of the Lab Technician and Lab Assistant as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in a biological science or related scientific field from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of Medical Technologist experience or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND DESIGNATIONS

In Florida, a valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking. In certain specialty laboratories other Florida licenses may be required. If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, must meet current CLIA requirements for high complexity testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds). (Tasks that require moving objects of significant weight require the assistance of another person and/or use of proper techniques and moving equipment.) Tasks may involve some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling or prolonged sitting or standing.
