Job description

Under general supervision, the Assistant Beach/Pool Manager assists with the overall operations of West Lake Beach or Scott County Pool, including supervising lifeguards and concessions personnel. Assists with all aspects of lifeguard training and documentation. Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Assists in opening and closing the Beach/Pool daily; ensures efficient operation and safe use of the Beach/Pool area at West Lake/Scott County Park.
2. Assists in the efficient operation and safe use of the assigned facilities.
3. Supervises personnel; assists with all aspects of lifeguard training and documentation.
4. Assists in the operation of the food concession area; manages inventory control and adherence to food sanitation rules and regulations; supervises concession personnel.
5. Assists with required documentation for balancing and deposit of daily receipts.
6. Responsible for ensuring proper customer service, record keeping, money handling, and safety standards are adhered to by assisting in training and scheduling of employees to maintain high customer service standards by all staff members.
7. Makes recommendations for improvement to the Beach/Pool Manager; notifies maintenance of necessary repairs and replacements of equipment.
8. Administers first aid as required.
9. Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
10. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND progressively responsible experience directing the staff and operations of a swimming facility and some previous customer service experience.

Knowledge of:

1. Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
2. Customer service principles, practices, and etiquette.
3. Supervisory principles and practices.
4. Inventory control practices.
5. Food handling and sanitation regulations and practices.
6. Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
7. Cash handling and receipting practices.
8. First aid administration.

Skill in:

1. Providing effective supervision and direction to assigned staff.
2. Addressing and resolving concerns and complaints.
3. Interacting tactfully and professionally with County staff, outside organizations, and the public.

License and Certification Requirements:

Must possess a Lifeguard, CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
Must be certified as a Water Safety Instructor or Lifeguard Instructor.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Work is performed outdoors and at various Beach and Pool related facilities and requires exposure to various weather conditions. May be required to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be required to perform swimming rescue and first aid procedures.
