Job description

Class Purpose

Under general direction, the Assistant Baseball Coach assists in all aspects of the District's intercollegiate baseball program. Responsibilities may include coaching student‑athletes, supporting recruitment and retention efforts, promoting academic success, ensuring compliance with California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A), conference, District, and College regulations, and fostering a positive, inclusive student‑athlete experience.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, conditioning sessions, and competitions.
  • Provide position‑specific instruction and skill development.
  • Monitor and encourage student‑athletes' academic progress, retention, and eligibility. Promote sportsmanship, ethical conduct, teamwork, and student development.
  • Assist with game preparation, scouting, practice planning, and player evaluation.
  • Support team travel, equipment management, inventory, and facility preparation.
  • Promote a safe environment and follow appropriate risk‑management practices.
  • Maintain required certifications and complete mandated District training.
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty, counseling, athletic‑training staff, and student‑services personnel to support student‑athlete success.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university and two years of professional experience.
  • Possession of an Associate’s degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of Peralta College students, faculty, staff, and community.
Supplemental Information

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts and providing a detailed record of relevant professional work experience in their application materials. The District will review education and work history to determine whether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made in accordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures. Official transcripts and additional verification of employment must be provided upon offer of employment.

If Experience is Required in Lieu of a Master’s Degree

For disciplines requiring a degree and professional experience, applicants must clearly describe how their education and work experience meet the minimum qualifications.

Equivalency

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly may apply for equivalency. Equivalency determinations are made through a separate review process in accordance with District procedures. The Equivalency Committee will consider only those applicants who formally request equivalency consideration by submitting the Completed Equivalency Request Form before the application close date. Be sure to attach detailed evidence such as unofficial transcripts and/or other certifications that support the equivalency.
