Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Class Purpose

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-TimeFaculty members to provide high-quality instruction and studentsupport in accordance with the District's mission of advancingequity, student success, and academic excellence. Part-time facultyare responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction thatpromotes student learning and achievement while supporting thediverse educational goals of the District's students.

Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day,evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of theDistrict's colleges.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved courseoutlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instructionusing evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials,assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable mannerand maintain accurate academic records.
  • Submit grades and other required reports by establisheddeadlines.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learningenvironment for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respondpromptly to inquiries.
  • Utilize the District's learning management system and otherinstructional technologies as appropriate.
  • Comply with District policies, collective bargainingagreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal andstate regulations.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development,and other college activities as appropriate for part-timefaculty.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Master’s degree in TESL, TESOL, appliedlinguistics with aTESL emphasis, linguistics with a TESLemphasis,English with a TESL emphasis or education with a TESLemphasis OR
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in TESL, TESOL, English witha TESL certificate, linguistics with a TESL certificate, appliedlinguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with aTESL certificate AND master’s inlinguistics, applied linguistics,English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speechor anyforeign language OR
  • the equivalent
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnicbackgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff andcommunity.
Supplemental Information
Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established bythe California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.

Applicantsare required to demonstrate that they meet the minimumqualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts andproviding a complete and detailed record of relevant professionalwork experience in their application materials.

The District will review education and work history to determinewhether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made inaccordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures. Official transcripts and additional verification of employmentwill be required upon offer of employment.

If experience is required in lieu of a master’sdegree:

For disciplines requiring a degree and professional experience,applicants must clearly describe how their education and workexperience meet the stated minimum qualifications.

Equivalency

Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications exactly mayapply for equivalency. Equivalency determinations are made througha separate review process in accordance with Districtprocedures.

The Equivalency Committee will consider only thoseapplicants who formally request equivalency consideration bysubmitting the Completed Equivalency Request Form. The form should besubmitted to epalafox@peralta.edu before the application closedate. Be sure to attach detailed evidence, such as unofficialtranscripts and/or other certifications that support theequivalency.

In order to be considered for this position, you must submit the following:

  2. A cover letter discussing methods, theories, or technologies especially relevant to your teaching style and describing any qualifications not evident in your resume or curriculumvitae.
  3. A resume/CV summarizing your educational background and experience.
  4. Transcripts

Transcripts of ALL college degrees/coursework needed to qualifyfor this position; unofficial or legible copies are acceptable butmust indicate that the degree(s) has been conferred, ifapplicable.

All degrees and units used to satisfy the minimum qualificationsmust be from postsecondary institutions accredited by anaccreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Department ofEducation or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. If yourdegree/coursework is from a college or university outside of theUnited States, you must submit a detailed evaluation from aprofessional evaluation agency. A partial list of agencies can befound at https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/foreign-transcript-evaluation-(cl-635). Transcripts or translations in English still require theevaluation to show the U.S. equivalence of your degree.

If needed to meet the minimum qualifications, a copy (front andback) of your fully satisfied, lifetime California CommunityCollege credential authorizing service in the appropriately discipline.

Failure to provide all required documents will result inelimination from the selection process. Official transcripts willbe required prior to appointment.
