Job summary

Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-Time Faculty to deliver high-quality instruction and support students. Assignments are made on an as-needed basis and may include day, evening, weekend, online, or hybrid classes at any of the District's colleges.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Chemistry from an accredited college or university.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry with a Master's in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics, Physics, Molecular Biology or Geochemistry.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver effective, student-centered instruction using evidence-based teaching practices.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, and assessments.
  • Evaluate student performance in a timely and equitable manner and maintain accurate academic records.
  • Submit grades and other required reports by established deadlines.
  • Create an inclusive, respectful, and supportive learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain regular communication with students and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Utilize the District's learning management system and other instructional technologies as appropriate.
  • Comply with District policies, collective bargaining agreements, accreditation standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in department meetings, professional development, and other college activities as appropriate for part-time faculty.

Job description

Class Purpose Peralta Community College District is seeking qualified Part-TimeFaculty members to provide high-quality instruction and studentsupport in accordance with the District's mission of advancingequity, student success, and academic excellence. Part-time facultyare responsible for delivering engaging, inclusive instruction thatpromotes student learning and achievement while supporting thediverse educational goals of the District's students.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Master's Degree from an accredited college oruniversity in Chemistry OR
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college oruniversity in Chemistry or Biochemistry AND A Master'sDegree in Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Physics,Physics, Molecular Biology or Geochemistry.
  • Understanding of, sensitivity to and respect for the diverseacademic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnicbackgrounds of Peralta Colleges’ students, faculty, staff andcommunity.
Supplemental Information

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications as established bythe California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Applicantsare required to demonstrate that they meet the minimumqualifications by submitting official or unofficial transcripts andproviding a complete and detailed record of relevant professionalwork experience in their application materials.

The District will review education and work history to determinewhether minimum qualifications are met. Determinations are made inaccordance with Title 5 regulations and District procedures.Official transcripts and additional verification of employmentwill be required upon offer of employment.

All degrees and units used to satisfy the minimum qualificationsmust be from postsecondary institutions accredited by anaccreditation agency recognized by either the U.S. Department ofEducation or the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. If yourdegree/coursework is from a college or university outside of theUnited States, you must submit a detailed evaluation from aprofessional evaluation agency. A partial list of agencies can befound at https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/foreign-transcript-evaluation-(cl-635). Transcripts or translations in English still require theevaluation to show the U.S. equivalence of your degree.
