Job summary

Lees-McRae College in North Carolina seeks an Assistant Baseball Coach to support the Head Coach in developing an elite NCAA Division II program. You will recruit prospective student-athletes, develop players, prepare for games, scout opponents, monitor academics, and assist with budget and administration.

The role requires strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building. You will travel for away games, participate in camps, and contribute to revenue generation while upholding NCAA

Qualifications

  • Coaching or playing experience at high school, college, or pro level required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and social media marketing platforms.
  • Ability to build relationships with student-athletes and families.

Responsibilities

  • Assist head coach with day-to-day operations of the baseball program, including game prep and practice planning.
  • Recruit elite prospective student-athletes and monitor academic progress.
  • Develop student-athletes through structured training and conditioning.
  • Coordinate travel, camps, and game-day logistics.

Job description

Reporting to the Head Baseball Coach, the Assistant Baseball Coach is responsible for assisting the head coach in meeting the goals of guiding and building an elite-level NCAA Division II program. This requires the promotion of academic achievement and character of the student-athlete, fans, and the overall College community. The Assistant Baseball Coach will be responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, individual player development, game day preparation, opponent scouting, academic monitoring, and on-field coaching during practices and games. A focus on generation of net tuition revenue and meticulous budget management is essential for this position. The Assistant Baseball Coach must abide by NCAA , Conference Carolinas, College, and Title IX regulations.

Essential Functions
  • Assist the head coach in all day-to-day operations of the baseball program which includes game preparation, organization and implementation of effective practice schedules, off-season programs and in-game coaching
  • Evaluation and recruitment of elite prospective student-athletes
  • Training and development of all student-athletes
  • Monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress and growth as a person
  • Ability to participate and lead in practice and drills
  • Individual workouts, conditioning, and strength training with players
  • Direction, instruction and assistance with summer baseball camps
  • Game film study and preparation
  • Game day meal planning and organization
  • Travel coordination for away competitions
  • Investment in the lives and growth of student-athletes
  • Assisting head coach in all phases of student-athlete mentoring and evaluation
  • Schedule non-conference games and arrange travel for the team and staff
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position will not directly supervise staff, but it will have responsibility for such when it comes to student assistants and/or managers.

Normal office environment in addition to non-traditional environment that includes gymnasiums, weight room, and locker room. Coach will be outside on the field for team activities and extra skill sessions.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position that will require evening and weekend work. Days and hours of work will vary. Monday through Friday hours can be 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 11:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. Frequent evening and weekend work is required for recruitment and games.

Travel

Extensive travel, including overnight travel, is required. Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Required Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience with Slate or another CRM
  • Certifications: CPR , AED , and First Aid.
Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
