Job summary

Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee invites applications for the position of Assistant Baseball Coach (Creative Design). This part-time role reports to the Head Baseball Coach and Director of Athletics and requires adherence to NCAA Division II rules and SIAC standards.

The successful candidate will assist with practices, player development, game strategy, and recruitment while maintaining a professional, compliant program and supporting student-athlete success on and off the field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year coaching experience, NCAA level preferred.
  • Ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods and lift 20 lbs.
  • Overnight travel at least 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct practices and organize the program within NCAA and conference policies.
  • Assist with game strategies, player development, and recruiting.
  • Direct individual and small group practice activities as directed by the head coach.
  • Ensure compliance with NCAA rules and Lane College athletic department policies.
  • Distribute equipment and manage records related to eligibility and injuries.

Assistant Baseball Coach (Creative Design)

Position: Assistant Baseball Coach

Reports To: Director of Athletics

FSLA Classification: Salary Exempt

Lane College, NCAA Division II, located in Jackson, Tennessee invites applicants for the position of Assistant Baseball Coach. This is a part-time position reporting to the Head Baseball Coach and Director of Athletics. Lane College is a member of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts all aspects of the program within the rules, regulations, and procedures encompassed in the NCAA, the athletic conference, College, and athletic department policies and procedures manual, with an understanding that failure to do so may lead to sanctions up to and including termination.
  • Utilization and u nderstanding of the NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic programs.
  • Responsible for assisting the head coach with organizing the program. Assists with conducting practices, motivating students, and instructing student athletes in game strategies and techniques.
  • Assists the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises as directed by the head coach.
  • Assesses players skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and keeps the head coach informed of the athletic performance of students.
  • Assists with determining game strategy.
  • Assists the head coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athletes injury.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
  • Distributes equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students as directed by the head coach.
  • Assists the head coach with submitting a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Performs support tasks such as distributing and maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practice.
  • Recruiting and retaining student‑athletes.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):

  • Bachelor's Degree is required (Master's Degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 1 year coaching experience required, preferably on the NCAA collegiate level.
  • Must have the ability to walk, stand, or sit for long periods of time and be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs.
  • Overnight travel at a minimum of 50% of the time.

You will be expected to abide by the NCAAs Article 2: Principles for Conduct of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Athletics Department Code of Conduct. Adherence to all guidelines, policies and procedures contained in the NCAA Division II Manual, Athletic Conference Policies and Procedures Manuals, and Lane College Athletic Department Policies and Procedures/Compliance Manuals in the performance of the responsibilities outlined in your positions job description will be expected and enforced.

Creating an atmosphere of compliance, accurately completing required Lane College and NCAA forms and reports and reporting any suspected violation of NCAA rules and regulations are expected and required.

All athletics staff and coaches are expected to act professionally to foster an atmosphere conducive to student athlete well-being, a safe and welcoming environment, high academic achievement, and a highly competitive athletic experience for our student athletes.

Failure to meet these expectations may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination.
