Job summary

Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking an Assistant Attorney General, Education to provide a broad range of legal services to education agencies reporting to the Secretary of Education. The role involves collaboration with fellow Section attorneys to support agencies under the Education portfolio and other duties as assigned by the Office of the Attorney General.

Travel may be required. Candidates must be admitted to the Virginia Bar and demonstrate strong analytical, writing, and communication

Qualifications

• The successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required.
• Admission to the Virginia Bar is required before beginning employment.

Job Duties

Together with other Section attorneys, the attorney will provide legal services to the assigned state agencies that report to the Secretary of Education, other than degree-granting institution of higher education.

Additionally, this individual will provide other legal services to the Commonwealth as directed by the Office of the Attorney General.

Some travel may be required.

Additional Considerations

Preference will be given to applicants with experience in the general practice of law, particularly those candidates with experience in the representation of governmental agencies or in education law.
