Job summary

The Oregon Department of Justice, Civil Enforcement Division, Economic Justice Section, Consumer Protection Unit, is hiring two full-time Assistant Attorneys General to focus on consumer protection. The roles involve civil litigation, developing case strategies, and advocating in court with a high level of independence.

Ideal candidates will have Oregon Bar eligibility, 2+ years of civil litigation or consumer protection experience, and strong written and oral advocacy skills.

Qualifications

• Active membership in good standing with the Oregon State Bar or eligible to waive into the Oregon Bar at time of application.
• At least 2 years of civil litigation or consumer protection experience.
• Ability to independently manage a caseload and move cases forward.
• Superior writing and oral advocacy skills; strong analytical and creative problem-solving abilities.
• Strong work ethic and commitment to public service.
• Willingness to travel occasionally, including overnight stays.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and litigate violations of consumer protection laws in state and federal court.
• Develop case strategies, issue civil discovery, draft and argue motions, and negotiate settlements.
• Work on cases across consumer protection areas such as finance, auto sales, health care, tech, and retail.
• Collaborate with enforcement partners and potentially assist with other Economic Justice matters as needed.
